RAQUEL STERN is a US-born director and screenwriter living in Berlin, Germany. Currently she is writing an episode of a historical thriller helmed by Ashley Pharoah, in development with ZDF for Urban Myth Films. In 2023 Raquel was director and co-writer of the final episode of anthology series MADE IN GERMANY (Studio Zentral/ARD) and co-director and writer of a 90-minute original primetime police drama (UFA Fiction/ARD). She has worked in the writers rooms of projects developed by Kinescope Film, Turbokultur, UFA Fiction, Neue Super, and Bon Voyage with Sky Deutschland.
Raquel has a B.F.A. in Film & TV Production from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she wrote and directed several award-winning short films. She holds an M.F.A. in screenwriting and dramaturgy, with a concentration in serial writing, from Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf. While finishing her master’s degree, Raquel’s original web series PITY FU*K screened at film and web series festivals internationally and was nominated for the Achtung Berlin – New Berlin Film Award.
In 2022, she was a participant in The Writers Lab Europe, a prestigious scriptwriting lab supported my Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman that fights sexism and ageism in TV and film.
