Jane Ray

Jane Ray is an illustrator and author who has worked with a variety of publishers, but is best known for her distinctive children’s book illustrations. As well as writing and illustrating her own stories, she has worked with authors including Michael Rosen, Vikram Seth, Carol Ann Duffy and Jeanette Winterson. She has been shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal.

Jane has worked on a fabulous range of projects including The Elephant’s Garden (written by Jane for Boxer Books) and The Glassmaker’s Daughter (written by Dianne Hofmeyr for Frances Lincoln), Corey’s Rock (written by Sita Brahmachari for Otter-Barry Books) and The Unicorn Prince, written by Saviour Pirotta, and Hummingbird, written by Nicola Davies.

The Tempest (Shakespeare retold by Georghia Ellinas) and illustrated by Jane was published by Walker Books in 2021. In the same year Jane published Swallows Kiss (written by Sita Brahmachari for Pop Up Projects). She also illustrated a captivating retelling of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a magical way to introduce children to one of the best-loved works of the world’s greatest playwright.

Jane has also provided illustrations for the Guardian Angels series (Macmillan), written by Lucinda Riley and Harry Whittaker.
