CARGO, directed by David Mercatali, opens at the Arcola Theatre

News

‘Goods get damaged all the time. Wouldn’t want to spoil the cargo, now, would we?’

Tess Berry-Hart’s new play CARGO has opened at the Arcola Theatre, where it’ll run until August 6th and then head out on a UK Tour. It’s directed by the award-winning David Mercatali (Little Light, Radiant Vermin, Dark Vanilla Jungle) with design from Max Dorey, lighting design from Christopher Nairne, and sound design from Max Pappenheim.

This timely world premiere is a tense and provocative thriller that reveals how much people are willing to risk in search of a better life.

A group of exiles sit in the dark of a container ship smuggling them into another land. But where have they come from? And who are they? As they journey ever closer to their destination in the hope of finding a future, they question what awaits them on the other side, and if those who pose the greatest threat to their safety might be locked amongst them.

You can by tickets for the London run here, and find more info about the tour on producer Metal Rabbit’s website or at the individual venues: SouthendOxfordSalisbury and Bristol.

On September 22nd David Mercatali will open BLUE HEART by Caryl Churchill at the Tobacco Factory in Bristol. It’ll transfer to the Orange Tree Theatre on October 13th. Tickets here and here.
