Today, February 26th, marks the first ever Gray Day, in celebration of Alasdair Gray on the 40th anniversary of his landmark novel ‘Lanark’ written over the course of almost three decades.
Novelists such as Jonathan Coe and Ian Rankin have taken to social media to celebrate Alasdair Gray’s work, with Rankin saying on Twitter: “He was a great, eccentric, generous and prodigiously gifted writer, artist, thinker and human being. He’s much missed…”
To mark the day, a new hardback edition of Lanark is being published, as well as editions of Unlikely Stories, Mostly, McGrotty and Ludmilla and The Fall of Kelvin Walker. For more info click here.
There will be a special Gray Day Broadcast on the 25th at 7.30pm, with special guests including Ali Smith, Yann Martel, Denise Mina, Irvine Welsh, Gemma Cairney, Ewen Bremner and more. Hosted by Neu Reekie, with Canongate and the Alasdair Gray Archive (and with special thanks to the Òran Mór).
