Darren’s musical and lyrical commissions include: Tarzanna (Gramophones Theatre Company, National UK Tour), ​The Boy and the Mermaid (​Paper Balloon, National UK Tour), ​The Scarecrows Wedding (Leicester Square Theatre & National Tour), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Southwark Playhouse (Jethro Compton Productions Ltd), ​The Wicker Husband (NAMT Showcase), Fantastic Mr Fox (lyrics only for Nuffield Theatre, UK Tour), Scarecrows Wedding (Edinburgh Festival, UK Tour, West End), The Little Gardener (Lyric Hammersmith, National Theatre, Latitude), These Trees Are Made of Blood (Southwark Playhouse), Day of the Living (We Light Up the House). Darren is an associate artist with children’s theatre company Paper Balloon, writing music & lyrics for all their shows including national tours of The Grumpiest Boy in the World which received its US premiere in 2016. Darren also wrote the music for the Off Broadway show Our Friends The Enemy. His projects in development include The Wicker Husband with Rhys Jennings for which he won the Music Theatre International Stiles & Drewe Mentorship Award in 2016. His songs have been finalists in the Stiles & Drewe Best New Song Award for 3 years running, winning Runner-up in 2015. In 2015 he was a finalist for numerous prizes including the Cameron Mackintosh Composer in Residence, the Old Vic 12 and the Kevin Spacey Artist of Choice Awards. He  won the Dunedin Operatic Executive Trust Award to support his musical theatre work in 2016.
