David Kane

David has earned great acclaim as lead writer and Executive Producer on 7 seasons of SHETLAND/BBC1 starring Douglas Henshall. He was also the creator of supernatural series SEA OF SOULS which ran for 4 seasons. David has written shows such as STONEMOUTH, adapted from the novel by Iain Banks, FIELD OF BLOOD & THE DEAD HOUR adapted from the novels by Denise Mina (which he also directed) and Scottish noir classic TAGGART.

His extensive television credits also include: SHADOW ON THE EARTH, which won Best Film at the World TV festival, DREAMBABY, JUTE CITY, FINNEY, RUFFIAN HEARTS, REBUS, FOYLE’S WAR, MIDNIGHT MAN, GEORGE GENTLY and MURDER ON THE HOME FRONT. Feature Films include THIS YEAR’S LOVE, BORN ROMANTIC (both also directed), and THE RIVER KING. He has also written several plays, winning the Writer’s Guild Award for DUMBSTRUCK directed by Sir Michael Boyd.

David studied painting and photography at art school before winning the National Screenwriters Award and becoming a professional writer.
