James Cummings is a BAFTA nominated screenwriter and is the co-creator of BOILING POINT. After writing the acclaimed 2021 feature film, James led the writing team for the 2023 BBC sequel series of the same name, writing across all four episodes. For the feature, James received nominations for Outstanding British Film and Outstanding Debut at the 75th BAFTA film awards, as well as a nomination for Best British Independent Film at the BIFAs.

BOILING POINT highlights James’ flair for creating complex, character-driven stories, and has shown how socially conscious themes and ideas – like his lauded depiction of a waitress suffering from Crohn’s disease, a subject rarely touched upon in media – can seamlessly merge with a character web of diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, here used to educate and discuss without lecturing or pandering. James’ approach will continue into projects currently in development with SEARCHLIGHT, WILD MERCURY, and BANKSIDE.

In 2023, James’ second feature, ACCUSED, was released on NETFLIX, where it became the number one streamed film in several countries, including the UK and Ireland. Working again with long-time collaborator and director Philip Barantini, this horror-thriller examined the state of racism against the brown community in the UK and how a runaway mine train of false information and baseless accusations can be wielded as a weapon in the modern age.
