- Joana’s work about strip clubs, psychedelic drugs and matriarchal Brazilian families has been described as “bitingly observant... beautifully chaotic, poetic & political", and her multi-award winning hit debut play FUCK YOU PAY ME brought stripper-stigma into the mainstream media. FUCK YOU PAY ME reviews: “This play… is taking the world by storm” – ELLE Magazine “A stigma-smashing whirlwind of comedy, poetry, music and storytelling” - Published by Oberon Books in 2019. The show had sell out runs at: The Bunker Theatre, SE1, Arcola Theatre Main House (headlining CASA Theatre festival), Brainchild Festival, Platform Southwark, Vault Festival, Edinburgh Festival Assembly Rooms, Rich Mix London. Awards: Nominated for Off West End “IDEA” Award 2020 Winner of Wiltons Music Hall Edinburgh Fringe Festival Award 2018 Winner of People’s Choice Award, Vault Festival 2018 Winner of Sexual Freedom Award 2018. Joana was a Brixton House Theatre Artistic Associate from 2019-21.
