Louris van de Geer is a filmmaker and playwright from Melbourne, Australia. She has been described as a “distinctive new voice” and her work as a “brilliant…study of human existence” by The Age.

Her film directorial debut, THE BODY (short, 2025) premiered at the Cannes’ Quinzaine des Cineastes and was called an “assured debut” by The Saturday Paper. THE BODY also screened at festivals such as Stockholm International Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, Adelaide Film Festival and Cinema Jove in Valencia as well as many others. It has been distributed by Toujiang Distribution in China.

In 2025, Louris was selected for Melbourne International Film Festival’s Accelerator Lab program. In 2024, Louris completed the Australian Writers’ Guild’s First Break Program and Creative Australia’s BR Whiting Studio Residency in Rome. As a playwright, Louris has been commissioned by Melbourne Theatre Company, Malthouse Theatre and English Touring Theatre. Her work has been shortlisted for the Griffin Award, Rodney Seaborn Award and the Edward Albee Scholarship.

Theatre credits include: an adaptation of Elizabeth Jolley’s THE WELL directed by Sarah Goodes in a staged reading as part of Melbourne Theatre Company’s summer season; TUESDAY directed by Nell Ranney at Belvoir’s 25A; the world premiere of LOOKING GLASS directed by Susie Dee at fortyfivedownstairs; the Sydney premiere of TRIUMPH directed by Tessa Leong at UNSW; THE SON for Melbourne Theatre Company’s Cybec Electric; the world premiere of TRIUMPH directed by Mark Prichard at fortyfivedownstairs; and HELLO THERE, WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU for Next Wave and ACMI.
