Michael Bond (1926 – 2017) is best known as the author of the much loved Paddington Bear books. First published in 1958, Paddington has remained on bookshelves in the UK and around the world ever since. Michael’s final Paddington novel, Paddington’s Finest Hour, was published in 2017 by HarperCollins. A Bear Called Paddington was also voted one of The Greatest Children’s Books of All Time in a 2023 BBC Culture poll compiled by 177 book experts from across 56 countries.

Michael’s other children’s books include Parsley & the Herbs, A Mouse Called Thursday and The Tales of Olga da Polga, a new edition of which was published in 2015 – with colour illustrations by Catherine Rayner – to celebrate the 40th anniversary. He also wrote the Monsieur Pamplemousse series about a French detective turned restaurant inspector (Allison & Busby). Michael had two titles published by Random House: The Tale of the Castle Mice and It Wasn’t Me.

The Paddington movies have since been released by Heyday Films and Studio Canal first in 2014 and then 2017 to global acclaim.
