Oliver completed a European BA Honours in International History and Politics at the University of Leeds and Uppsala Universitet in 2013. He then began work as a researcher at BBC Factual and Praslin Pictures, before moving into sales and acquisitions at Hanway Films.
He was shortlisted for the 2014 Emmy-sponsored Peter Ustinov Award with a script that subsequently won him a place on the prestigious MA Screenwriting course at the National Film and Television School (NFTS) in 2015.
During his time at the NFTS, Oliver was selected for the 2016 Soho Theatre’s Writers’ Lab and secured a place on the 2017 Channel 4 Screenwriting Course on graduation.
In 2018, Oliver was shortlisted for the ITV/Red Planet Prize and selected for iFeatures, the UK’s leading feature development lab run by Creative England, the BFI, and BBC Films.
He was recently shortlisted for the 2020 BAFTA-nominated 4Stories scheme (run by Channel 4 and BlackLight Television) and the 2021 BBC TV Drama Writers’ Room.
He is mentored by the BAFTA-nominated playwright and screenwriter Lucinda Coxon.
