Stephen Butchard

About Stephen Butchard

Stephen Butchard is a screenwriter and producer from Liverpool. His most recent productions include adaptations of Alex Perry’s true crime mafia book THE GOOD MOTHERS (House Productions/Disney+) and CJ Samson’s book series SHARDLAKE  (The Forge/Disney+). With an engineering background, Stephen wrote for theatre and radio before turning to screen. His early work includes SOFT SAND, BLUE SEA (Diplomat Films/C4), LITTLE BIRD and LIE WITH ME (Granada).

Stephen’s series include A & E (Granada), VINCENT (Granada), nominated for the Prix Italia and Best Series at International Emmy Awards, and BAFTA-nominated HOUSE OF SADDAM (BBC/HBO).  Other credits include STOLEN (Best Drama Serial at the RTS Awards), BBC miniseries FIVE DAUGHTERS, GOOD COP for the BBC, THE CHILD IN TIME (SunnyMarch/BBC) and BAGHDAD CENTRAL (Euston Films/Channel 4). Stephen adapted and helmed the first three series of THE LAST KINGDOM (Carnival/BBC/Netflix), based on Bernard Cornwell’s bestselling ‘The Saxon Stories’.
