Pete Bowker’s THE A WORD starts Tuesday 22nd March 9pm on BBC1

Revolving around the Hughes family, The A Word depicts their struggle to come to terms with life when the youngest son is diagnosed with autism.

A deftly witty, deeply moving and thought-provoking series about the power of family. It will tell the story of how the Hugheses learn to communicate properly with each other as a result of having an autistic family member.

Written and executive produced by Pete Bowker, starring Christopher Eccleston, Lee Ingleby, Morven Christie and Greg McHugh, directed by Peter Cattaneo, and produced by Patrick Spence’s Fifty Fathoms ProductionsThe A-Word is based on the Israeli Keshet and July August Productions series, “Yellow Peppers,” created and written by Keren Margalit.

Talking about the project, Eccleston said: “I’m very proud to be reunited with writer Peter Bowker on The A Word. This is a special job for us all. We hope the audience take us to their hearts.”
