Exciting news for theatre fans!
The much-loved 2014 film Pride is being reimagined as a brand-new stage musical! Produced by P&P Productions in partnership with the National Theatre, the show will premiere at Cardiff’s Sherman Theatre from 31 March to 18 April 2026, before transferring to London’s National Theatre (Dorfman Theatre) from 11 June to 12 September 2026.
The creative team reunites director Matthew Warchus and writer Stephen Beresford, the duo behind the original film, to bring this uplifting true story back to life—this time with music. Set against the backdrop of the 1984 miners’ strike, Pride follows a group of lesbian and gay activists who stand in solidarity with striking miners, forming an unlikely yet powerful alliance.
The production features a book and lyrics by Beresford and music by Christopher Nightingale, Josh Cohen, and DJ Walde. The world-class creative team also includes Bunny Christie (set and costume design), Lizzi Gee (choreography), Hugh Vanstone (lighting), Bobby Aitken (sound), Tom Kelly (music supervision), Jo Cichonska (music direction), and David Grindrod (casting).
Director Matthew Warchus shared his excitement:
“It was one of the greatest joys of my career to direct the film version of Pride. I’m thrilled to reunite with Stephen and the rest of the team to bring this powerful and emotional story to the stage.”
National Theatre director Indhu Rubasingham added:
“The Dorfman is the perfect space for Pride’s world premiere—intimate, bold, and bursting with creative energy. I can’t wait for audiences to experience its joy and impact.”
Public booking opens at 10am on Friday, 14 November 2025
