Felicity Epps’ debut novel, THE SOCIETY OF FREE SPIRITS: A GRAVE INHERITANCE, has been selected as Waterstones’ Young Adult Book of the Month for August 2025! To mark the occasion, Waterstones have released an exclusive, sprayed-edge edition.
A GRAVE INHERITANCE, published 31st July 2025 from Hachette, is the first title in a brilliant new YA series, THE SOCIETY OF FREE SPIRTS. After her father and older sister both die suddenly, Dolores is left with the family’s inheritance, and a large house she’s sure is haunted. Teaming up with her occult-obsessed neighbour, Ada, and the mysterious spiritual medium, Violet, the three girls plan to dispel the bad spirits from Dolores’ home. But when Dolores uncovers a clue that suggests her sister Edith’s death wasn’t due to natural causes, what starts as an investigation into ghostly apparitions develops into the unravelling of something far more sinister.
Described by Waterstones as a “page-turning YA debut […] mixing crime thriller and supernatural chiller”, A GRAVE INHERITANCE is a witty Victorian murder-mystery complete with supernatural suspicions, seances, sisterhood and a potential love triangle.
