Little Tiger has acquired the hilarious gothic tale FRANKENKITTY, a new picture book from Maudie Powell-Tuck, illustrated by Kate Greenaway Medal winner Mini Grey, in a two-book deal.
FRANKENKITTY is pitched by Little Tiger as “a wickedly illustrated” tale that is “equal parts giggles and goosebumps”. “Born of stitches and lightning, Frankenkitty wanders the halls of the darketty dark castle. Everyone trembles at the sight of him. But is he really such a foul and loathsome creature? And can anyone save him before it’s too late?”
Editorial Director at Little Tiger, Stephanie Stansbie, said: “I’ve been a huge admirer of Mini Grey’s work for many years and am beyond thrilled to have her on the Little Tiger list. The humour and detail she brings to every inch of her illustrations are off the charts, making her the perfect pairing for Maudie Powell-Tuck’s exquisitely dramatic Frankenkitty. And we’re excited to be working with Mini on another brilliant book”.
Author Maudie Powell-Tuck added: “Frankenkitty is a love letter to Gothic parody- camp, silly, mischievous and just a little bit scary. It’s been an utterly magical experience to pair up with the incredible Mini Grey, and the fabulous Little Tiger Team, to work on this book together.”
As quoted in the press release, Mini says “As a child, I was a massive fan of all things cheesy-horror, from The Munsters to Carry On Screaming to Young Frankenstein – I loved them all. So when I had a chance to help make a funny horror-zone picture book, I had to take it!”.
Little Tiger will publish FRANKENKITTY in September 2026, with a second book from Mini Grey to follow in September 2027.
