Launched in January, The National Year of Reading 2026 is the biggest campaign in a generation designed to help more people (re)discover the joy of reading and make it part of their everyday lives.
The National Literacy Trust, in partnership with the Department of Education, revealed “Go All In” as the brand identity for the National Year of Reading in an approach to tackle the steep decline in reading enjoyment amongst children, young people and adults.
Agency clients Malorie Blackman and Harry Trevaldwyn were just some of our brilliant clients supporting the campaign. As an official ambassador for the National Year of Reading, Malorie has discussed the importance of the campaign and the joy of reading across various outlets including The Guardian, The Independent and BBC Radio 4.
In an interview with The Guardian, Malorie said the campaign was “about making reading seem as natural and everyday as breathing”, going on to say “Reading is so important for understanding the world around you. It’s very easy to become laser-focused on just your own experiences, but reading gives you a way of expanding your horizons, learning about other people and other ways of thinking and feeling and doing. We’re in danger of losing that ability to connect and communicate”. Malorie also championed the importance of public libraries in making reading more accessible, saying ““I used to live in my local library. I didn’t actually go into a bookshop until I was 14, because I couldn’t afford the books […] Having a public library within walking distance, and the revelation that I could read any and all of the books, made me who I am.”
The Independent asked some of Britain’s top authors, including Malorie, for tips on how to read more. Malorie’s advice: “Read for pleasure with the emphasis on pleasure. Read what you love, what you care about, what challenges you, makes you think, makes you laugh or cry or feel. If you want to read graphic novels, books about hobbies or listen to audiobooks, then go for it. And enjoy!”
Harry Trevaldwyn, whose hilarious debut, YA novel THE ROMANTIC TRAGEDIES OF A DRAMA KING (First Ink) published last year, supported the campaign launch with a video message shared on the campaign’s official Instagram page, saying “Reading can help me feel understood and it can also make you feel seen. Reading about someone else’s experience can be a bit like looking in a mirror, but that mirror connects you not only with the book but also with other people.”
Many of our other wonderful clients have been showing their support but sharing the “Go All In” message on their socials and discussing why reading is so important to them.
