Ian Beck

Ian Beck is best known for his beautifully illustrated picture books. He has illustrated classic fairy tales and nursery stories (including The Little Mermaid by Berlie Doherty and Puss In Boots and Aladdin and the Enchanted Lamp, both by Philip Pullman) and his own picture book titles (The Teddy Robber, the Lost in the Snow quartet, Tom and the Island of Dinosaurs, The First Third Wish and Grey Island Red Boat).

He moved into young fiction with the Tom Trueheart trilogy, Hidden Kingdom (both OUP) and has written for young adults with titles including Pastworld (Bloomsbury), The Haunting of Charity Delafield (Random House) and the bind-up The Carmody Casebooks (Penguin Random House) which includes The Disappearance of Tom Pile and The Miraculous Return of Annick Garel.

Ian has illustrated several titles for Alma Books including The Jungle BooksJust So Stories and White Fang. Ian also wrote and illustrated The Magic Hour for Tate Publishing.

Ian’s latest work, The Light in Suburbia was published by Unbound. The collection of lockdown paintings include more than sixty paintings, mostly in watercolour, the record of a year spent trying to ‘record the beauty around me in the unprepossessing everyday.’
