Joy C. Mitchell was born in Los Angeles, CA. She attended University of Southern California, majoring in print journalism and music industry. With her B.A. completed, she spent a year working in the music business before moving on to earn an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College. Though she studied fiction writing, her concentration was screenwriting and her graduate thesis was a feature-length comedy screenplay.
After graduate school, she worked in development and production for NBCUniversal at Syfy, USA, and Universal Cable Productions. In 2012, she was a semi-finalist in the WB Television Writers’ Workshop. In 2014, her teen music drama “Rocked” was a quarter-finalist in ColorCreative TV’s original drama pilot competition. In the summer of 2016, her pilot “The Exiles” progressed to the final round of consideration for the 2016 Sundance Episodic Story Lab. Additionally, “The Exiles” has been optioned and is currently in development at UFA Fiction as an anthology series. She was a staff writer for the second season of hit spy drama series, “Deutschland 86.”
Her journalism work has been published in places like The Hollywood Reporter, Teen Vogue, and Billboard. Currently, she lives in Berlin, Germany.
