About Karen McCombie

Karen McCombie has written more than 100 children’s books, been published worldwide and was described by Waterstones as “One of children’s fiction’s most accomplished authors”.

Karen is the author of the best-selling and much-loved series ALLY’S WORLD (Scholastic), as well as the Carnegie-nominated LITTLE BIRD FLIES and its partner novel LITTLE BIRD LANDS (Nosy Crow), sweeping Victorian sagas set in the Scottish Highlands and 1860s America respectively. Her back catalogue consists of series such as ST GRIZZLE’S SCHOOL FOR GIRLS (Stripes), THE ANGELS NEXT DOOR (Puffin), YOU, ME AND THING (Faber) and INDIE KIDD Indie Kidd (Walker). Karen also authored the alien-on-earth adventures HOW TO BE A HUMAN and HOW TO HIDE AN ALIEN (Little Tiger).

Karen’s 100th book- THE MYSTERY IN FLAT 6B (Bloomsbury) published in 2023. Karen’s work has also been published by Barrington Stoke, including dyslexia-friendly short novels FAGIN’S GIRL, an exciting Oliver Twist-inspired tale, THE BROKEN DRAGON and THE BOY WHO STOLE THE PHARAOH’S LUNCH, a time-slip adventure.

Karen is from Scotland, but lives in London with her very Scottish husband, English son Eddy, an idiot dog and a beautiful but bitey cat.
