Karen McCombie has written more than 100 children’s books and been published worldwide. Her recent publications include alien-on-earth adventures How To Be A Human and How To Hide An Alien (Little Tiger), and Fagin’s Girl (Barrington Stoke), an exciting Oliver Twist-inspired short novel.

Other publications include Carnegie-nominated Little Bird Flies and its partner novel Little Bird Lands, sweeping Victorian sagas set in the Scottish Highlands and 1860s America respectively (Nosy Crow).

Her back catalogue consists of series such as St Grizzle’s School for Girls (Stripes), The Angels Next Door (Puffin), You, Me and Thing (Faber) and Indie Kidd (Walker). She is also the author of the best-selling and much-loved series Ally’s World (Scholastic).

Karen kicked off 2023 with the publication of her 100th book – The Mystery in Flat 6B – a quick-read novel with an urban setting (Bloomsbury). Next cameThe Broken Dragon, the gentle story of Tyra and the granny she lives with (Feb ’23), followed by time-slip short novel The Boy Who Stole The Pharaoh’s Lunch (May ’23), both from Barrington Stoke.

Karen is from Scotland, but lives in London with her very Scottish husband, English son Eddy, an idiot dog and a beautiful but bitey cat.
