Harry Trevaldwyn’s THE ROMANTIC TRAGEDIES OF A DRAMA KING optioned for TV

Harry Trevaldwyn’s debut novel THE ROMANTIC TRAGEDIES OF A DRAMA KING is set to be adapted for TV.

Producers See-Saw Films unveiled a slate of new literary options being developed for TV in Variety which includes THE ROMANTIC TRAGEDIES OF A DRAMA KING – a hilarious, YA rom-com written by actor and comedian Harry Trevaldwyn.

Publishing in January 2025 from First Ink (an imprint of Pan Macmillan), the story follows loveable teenager Patch, who makes it his mission to get a boyfriend. Unfortunately, the only other “out” boys in his school year are dating each other, so finding a boyfriend isn’t going to be easy . . . Until fate finally intervenes and two new mysterious boys join drama club.

Perfect for fans of Bridget Jones, Georgia Nicolson and HEARTSTOPPER (also produced by See-Saw), THE ROMANTIC TRAGEDIES OF A DRAMA KING is a heartfelt, laugh-out-loud comedy about boldly being yourself.

“The book — which is being published by Pan Macmillan in early 2025 — follows a “young man who decides to reinvent himself and go on a mission to get a boyfriend, regardless of whether he’s getting much encouragement from the world around him,” says Gregory [Helen Gregory, joint Managing Director of See-Saw], who adds that is it “very funny” in Variety’s article.

Harry Trevaldwyn will be adapting his novel for the screen himself, with the article noting “with the hope that, like “Shifters,” it can become a returning series.”

The announcement in Variety follows an exciting cover reveal from publisher First Ink, in collaboration with Waterstones, who described it as a “laugh-out-loud funny, sparkling debut romcom”. THE ROMANTIC TRAGEDIES OF A DRAMA KING is available to pre-order now in the UK and the US.
