Catherine Tregenna

About Catherine Tregenna

Catherine Tregenna is a Welsh playwright and screenwriter who created the critically acclaimed courtroom drama, THE BENCH for BBC Wales and wrote several episodes of their flagship series BELONGING. As well as contributing to long running drama series such as EASTENDERS and CASUALTY, she was one of the original writers on LAW & ORDER UK and has written for primetime detective dramas, LEWIS and DCI BANKS. She has also written episodes of STAN LEE’S LUCKY MAN and RIVIERA for Sky Atlantic.

Catherine has penned four episodes of the highly popular sci-fi drama TORCHWOOD, one of which, Captain Jack Harkness, was nominated for a Hugo award. She went on to write an episode of DOCTOR WHO, The Woman Who Lived. She has written an episode for the Terry Pratchett drama, THE WATCH for BBC America and two episodes of THREE PINES, adaptations of the Inspector Gamache novels by Louise Penny for Amazon Prime Video, and the reboot of BERGERAC for UKTV/U.

Most recently, Catherine’s original, dual language dark noirish detective drama CLEDDAU/THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY for S4C and BBC landed to excellent critical and audience reviews, and will be returning for a second series.

Originally an actress, Catherine trained at The Welsh College of Music and Drama and acted on stage and screen in both Welsh and English before turning to writing. Her play ART AND GUFF (commissioned by Sgript Cymru and Soho Theatre Company) was first performed at the Soho Theatre in 2001, and then at Chapter in Cardiff.
