Edinburgh International Book Festival 2023 Children’s Books Roundup

We are so excited to see some of our wonderful Children’s Books at The Agency clients set to take part in the Edinburgh International Book Festival this year!

The annual festival takes place from 12th– 28th August 2023 with an array of events, talks, discussions and interactive sessions taking place.

Lydia Monks will make a special appearance at “Julia Donaldson and Friends: The Amazing World of Julia Donaldson” Saturday 19th August, 10:00-11:00 at the Baillie Gifford Sculpture Court. Bestselling illustrator of the What the Ladybird Heard series and Sugarlump and the Unicorn (Macmillan), Lydia will join Julia in a fun-packed event of songs, storytelling, and more. Lydia will also be appearing her own event “”From Tiny Acorns with Lydia Monks” on Saturday 19th August, 14:00-15:00 at the Baillie Gifford Creation Station, discussing the inspiration for her beautiful picture book Adoette (Andersen Press). As part of the festival’s story-time sessions, Lydia will also be appearing in “Are You Sitting Comfortably?” a magical half hour of stories for children and families, taking place on Sunday 20th August, 10:00-10:30 at the Baillie Gifford Storytime Yurt. Elizabeth Laird will be exploring her latest book Two Ants Puzzled (Tiny Owl) at her event “Interesting Insects with Elizabeth Laird” on Sunday 20th August, 10:00-11:00 at the Baillie Gifford Creation Station. Audiences will discover this wonderful retelling of Rumi’s classical tale and can invent and colour in their own insect character. Click here for more information about this event.

Audiences can join Malorie Blackman in “Writing My Story” on Tuesday 22nd August, 12:00-13:00 at the Spark Theatre, where following the publication of her autobiography Just Sayin’ (#Merky Books), Malorie will discuss the extraordinary life experiences that led her to becoming a best-selling and much-loved author. Amara Sage, author of thoughtful and compelling YA novel Influential (Faber) is teaming up with William Hussey (author of Broken Hearts and Zombie Parts) in their event “Learning to Love Yourself with William Hussey and Amara Sage” on Thursday 24th August, 11:45-12:30 at the Baillie Gifford Sculpture Court. Amara and William will be discussing their whip-smart YA novels and how their own experiences have helped shaped their writing. Click here for more information about this event.

Nadia Mikail’s beautifully moving novel The Cats We Meet Along the Way (Guppy) is shortlisted for the YA Book Prize, which is organised by The Bookseller and run in partnership with the Edinburgh International Book Festival. The festival will be holding snapshot events, created especially for schools, to introduce audiences to the authors and books nominated, before the award ceremony takes place on Thursday 24th August, 17:15-18:45, at the Baillie Gifford West Court.
