Malindadzimu Opens At The Hampstead Theatre

Critics are praising Mufaro Makubika’s new play at The Hampstead Theatre as a ‘smart soap opera that unpicks issues of history, heritage and empire.’ Arifa Akbar further notes how impressively Makubika’s play weaves together ‘divergent features so coherently’.

The play travels from Nottingham to Zimbabwe to explore a mother and daughter’s quest for belonging, their struggle with a multicultural history and a haunting history that cannot be ignored.

The Independent also notes that the play is ‘densely layered, its warmly observed relationships rubbing up against larger ideas of ancestry, inherited trauma, identity and belonging.’

Performances take place until 30th October.  Tickets are available here.
