Children's Books News

Shine Like the Stars (Andersen), written by Anna Wilson and illustrated by Harry Woodgate, has been receiving wonderful reviews and recognition since publishing earlier this year.

Told from the point of view of the natural world, Shine Like the Stars is an exquisite and thought-provoking picture book story which invites readers to connect with the world around them and achieve their potential.

LoveReading4Kids, the review and bookseller website, praised Shine Like the Stars as “perfectly pitched for young children”, and described how the “text is poetic but beautifully simple and evocative, enhanced by glowing illustrations, and the message is one we should all take to our hearts.”

Books for Keeps also reviewed Shine Like the Stars as “powerful, poetic” and “reassuring” in the way “Each component of the cosmos speaks directly to the reader in a kind of guided meditation that aims to help him or her understand and ‘cope with’ troubling feelings and situations be that relating to loneliness, loss, sadness, nervousness, frustration, fearfulness or insignificance.”

The Reader Teacher (also known as @MrEPrimary on Twitter) featured Shine Like the Stars in their January 2023 “Monthly Must Reads” including the following review: “Ending by encouraging readers to embrace their own unique talents and abilities, just as the stars shine brightly in the sky, this thought-provoking picture book feels like it give you one last big hug before you close its pages”.

Anna Wilson also recently appeared on BBC Radio Cornwall to discuss Shine Like the Stars and her love of nature with host Tiffany Truscott. You can listen to Anna’s segment online here.
