We are delighted that The Agency’s very own Jessica Hare has been announced as one of The Bookseller’s Rising Stars of 2023 today (Friday 7th July 2023)!
The Rising Star accolade, now in its 13th year in an annual list of the book industry’s up-and-comers and leaders of the future, as chosen by The Bookseller team.
In their profile on Jessica, The Bookseller noted: “In April, just six years after entering the industry, Jessica Hare was tabbed to run The Agency’s children’s department upon Hilary Delamare’s retirement, inheriting some of the biggest authors and illustrators in the sector, including Malorie Blackman, Lydia Monks and the Michael Bond estate. Hare has also built her own enviable list, including débutante Ash Bond (whose Peregrine Quinn series was one of the hottest properties at Bologna 2023) and Nadia Mikail, this year’s Waterstones Children’s Book Prize winner.”
Asked for her thoughts on the future of the book industry, Jessica replied that she hopes the industry will “put the creator at the centre… We have a way to go in terms of demystifying and making the process accessible, and clearly signposting what happens from manuscript to publication and beyond”.
