Tony Schumacher, writer of the critically drama The Responder walked away with the award for Best Script Writer at the Royal Television Society North awards this weekend.
The drama follows Martin Freeman as a troubled first response police officer in Liverpool and drew on Tony’s experiences in the same role. The Guardian cited the series as one of the TV highlights of the year so far and the writing and performances received critical acclaim from all major media outlets. Adelayo Adeyayo also picked up the award for Best Breakthrough Talent in her role as a Rachel, a newly qualified police officer.
The show is set to return for a second series with Martin Freeman reprising his role.
