Whose Dog is This?, written by Andrew Sanders and illustrated by Aysha Awwad, has been shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2024.

Shortlisted in the Illustrated Books category, Whose Dog is This? is an action-packed and laugh-out-loud story of young Albert, who, when his dad finds the living room in total chaos, blames the mess on a mysterious dog. The hilarious picture book is a follow-up to Andrew and Aysha’s first title, Where Has All the Cake Gone?. Both titles are published by Macmillan Children’s Books.

The Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, now in its twentieth year, finds and champions the best new talent in children’s writing and illustration across three categories: Illustrated Books, Younger Readers, and Older Readers. Six titles are shortlisted in each category, with the winners from each category making up three finalists who will compete for the overall title of Waterstones Children’s Book Prize Winner 2024.

News of the 2024 shortlist has been covered by The Bookseller, which mentioned the “hilarious and memorable” Whose Dog is This?, alongside last year’s Older Readers and Overall Winner The Cats We Meet Along the Way (Guppy Books) by The Agency client Nadia Mikail, which “became Waterstones’ April Children’s Book of the Month, achieving a 1,280% sales uplift across the Waterstones estate in the week after announcement”.

The category winners and overall winner of the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2024 will be announced at the prize ceremony on 21st March 2024.
