Birmingham writer Alex successfully changed his career by one letter from waiter to writer when he was accepted onto Channel 4’s prestigious Coming Up scheme in 2011 with his script HOOKED, and subsequently voted a Broadcast Hot Shot in 2012.
Since then he’s written 2 episodes of Channel 4’s flagship soap opera HOLLYOAKS, shadowed Paul Abbott and his writer’s room for the final series of SHAMELESS, and developed original series for Touchpaper, Big Light and Wall to Wall.
In 2016 he was selected for the Fresh Voices BAME Bootcamp run by Carol Russell for which he wrote his much sought-after script BIN LIDS. In 2017 Alex won a place on the BBC Writersroom Drama Writer’s Programme where he developed his comedy-drama GINGERBREAD with Red Production Company. He wrote on series 3 of ACKLEY BRIDGE and TIN STAR, and is currently writing on THE LAST KINGDOM for Netflix. He has original projects in development with Vertigo Films, Big Light Productions and Cosmopolitan Pictures/Clerkenwell Films, and is working up several other original TV series alongside writing his first feature project.
He is of Indian and Jamaican heritage and is a father of twins.
