Sam Mendes and Isley Lynn win big at The Evening Standard Awards

Congratulations to Sam Mendes and Isley Lynn who both took home awards at the 67th annual Evening Standard Theatre Awards.

The awards ceremony took place at Claridge’s Hotel in London and was presented by actor Susan Wokoma, and hosted by Evening Standard owner Lord Lebedev and actors David Harewood, Vanessa Kirby, Ian McKellen and Sienna Miller.

Isley Lynn received the Charles Wintour Award for Most Promising Playwright for their play The Swell. In The Swell, Annie and her fiancé Bel are visited by an unexpected guest. An old friend of Annie’s: free spirit and troublemaker Flo, who announces she’ll be staying with them until their big day. This surprise reunion evolves into a complicated love triangle with dangerous consequences that threaten to destroy Annie and Bel’s happily ever after. Watch Isley Lynn’s interviews here.

Sam Mendes won the Lebedev Award for his contribution to theatre over four decades during which he ran the Donmar Warehouse, directed for the RSC and National Theatre, and conquered the Wet End and Broadway, while also evolving a peerless film career. Read more about Sam’s amazing award win here.

Sam will be directing a new play by Jez Butterworth The Hills of California at The Harold Pinter Theatre next year, and the transfer of The Motive & The Cue opens at the Noël Coward Theatre on December 9th. Isley Lynn’s new play Jobsworth, written with Libby Rodcliffe, will be performed at Vault Festival in March next year.
